I remember watching Nelson, the inventor of the chicken Manchurian on TV cooking his specialty dish, chilli chicken and I knew it would be a great dish to make for appetizers. It is a very simple and quick dish to make and very hard to go wrong with.
Ingredients
Chicken – 500 grams (cut into small pieces)
Onions – 2 Big ones quatered and separated.(don’t slice or dice it)
Garlic – 8-9 cloves
Green chillis – 3-4
Tomato – Cut into long slices (optional)
Tomato sauce – one tablespoon
Dark soy sauce – two tablespoon
Oil – 2-3 teaspoons
Marinate for chicken
Salt
Pepper – one teaspoon
Half a lime
Soya sauce – one teaspoon
Method
- Marinate the chicken with the ingredients listed for marinate for around 30 minutes.
- Heat the wok and add oil. When the oil is heated, add the chopped garlic. Once the garlic browns add the chopped green chilli and stir on high heat.
- Now add two tablespoons of dark soy sauce. Be careful because this will splutter a lot.
- Once the soy sauce spreads over the pan, add the onions and stir until translucent.
- Now add the marinated chicken pieces and add salt and stir it continuously.
- Once the chicken is almost cooked add tomato sauce and in the end add the tomato slices and stir till its cooked
NOTE: This dish can get salty easily with the soy sauce and the tomato ketchup, so go easy on the salt.
